The look and simplicity of a touchscreen make this an irresistible feature when shopping for the latest technology and when choosing a thermostat.  If you are interested in ease of use along with design, a touchscreen thermostat such as the TH8321U is one of the best choices.  Like clicking a computer's mouse, lightly pressing a touchscreen surface activates a controller card and a software driver to indicate a choice or menu on your thermostat.  In a study at the University of Maryland, touchscreens were compared to Michelangelo's famous fresco of the gods' where two fingertips meet.  According to the study, "The process of touching is immediately recognizable as the gift of life, and inventors of the touchscreen in the 1960's may have been inspired by this image in their cultural unconscious."  With this in mind, it is no wonder that our touchscreens are so popular and in demand!

Touchscreens are normally constructed of an LCD (liquid crystal display) screen.  LCD screens use two sheets of polarized materials, with a central layer of a liquid crystal solution, which together create that soft feel and clear picture for choosing your setpoint temperature in seconds.  Electric currents pass through the liquid crystal, causing each individual crystal to either block light or allow it to pass through.  Overall, the look of the touchscreen is smooth and distinctly modern, like the Honeywell TH8320. One of the reasons LCD screens work so well with thermostats is because they are able to conform into small enough sizes for an appliance such as a thermostat.  Specifically, White Rodgers features a unique, large touchscreen that they have even embellished with a bright blue color for the 1F95-1271 model.  White Rodgers uses the blue color as research has suggested its calming effects and increased memory function.  The options and benefits are endless with a touchscreen.  Another factor that an LCD makes possible for your thermostat display is luminance.  Luminescent qualities come hand-in-hand with LCD screens, meaning that these touchscreens have very slight glowing effects that are easy to see, and are brighter, all to help your viewing and read your settings more easily.
